Cornwall's History

Four Components

The roots of Cornish Heritage begins with its Celtic Descendants within the Dummoni and Coronvii tribes, which have close ties with Celtic Lands of Wales, Brittany and Ireland. Dummoni and Coronvii tribes prodomatley inhabited Cornwall and had lived there between the Iron Age and the Post-Roman period. Even back then it was repressed of its culcture and langauge, specifically during the Anglo-Saxon invasion and that part of the country became more angelized.

Regarding the name chosen (Cornwall) it is belived that it had been thought from the tribe name Cornovii. However, in those times Cornwall was often referred to as ‘Westwals’ - which transaltes to West Welsh, and a lot of the time instead of being hand in hand with the Saxon’s they were actaully at war with them. Although, later down the line came the River Tamar which evidentially separated the Cornish from this chaos and went on to be separate but protective of their Celtic Heritage.

However, this isn't the only part of Cornwall's History it was just the beginning, another thing they are well known for is its Mining and Fishing history and landscapes. In fact, one of the most well-known mining places is called UNESCO and is a world heritage site, renowned for its history of tin and copper mining from the 18th-19th century. The ancient landmark features remnants like enging houses, mine shafts, and industrial ports. The Cornwall and West Devon Mining landscape has helped to boost and also improve global mining technology.

It is hard to state how much profit has been gained through mining but there is statists that show copper mines in the mid-19th century showed significant wealth generated for mine investors, with over one seven-year period they gained £216,548, which at the time was considered very large. However, on the other hand if you look at shortly before the industry's decline with the last mine closing, the remaining mines were putting approximately £26 million a year into the local Cornish Economy.

Now, when you take a look into its fishing heritage you will find that as well as the mining, fishing is another highly profitable and productive historical industry. A famous fish Cornwall was known for was called Pilchard and that gained a lot of popularity within many regions yet was sadly banned in a lot of places later on to actually catch. However, there was another fishing form that became popular not long after and that was in the 16th century of fishing mackerel which began in the Cornwall area officially started by Breton fisherman. Another thing that helped Cornwall with the popularity of this was Breton fisherman had complications in France due to Religious embellishments so they ended up coming down to Cornwall. These fish were caught by Drifting nets but were manufactured different to how the Pilchard nets were and also different boats (depending on the fish depended on the design and technique).

Furthermore, as much as the Cornish locals had these beautiful fish swimming around in their waters, what they would mainly eat from it was normal fish and also shellfish. In the 13th century there was actually someone who created a poem on the triumphs of Cornwall's fish and tin profits, yet the wealth of these two things did not necessarily fall down to the common folk.

About us

The reason we are sharing all of this is because these are the true beauties that Cornwall and its locals pride themselves on and want to be able to fully take ownership of these, such as the welsh and Scottish did when they became the other Nations of the Uk and we can do that if we make Cornwall the 5th one!

We are standing against all of the rejection they get from the higher powers and also neglect, the government  feel they need to ‘fix’ Cornwall and make a new one when all the community is asking for is to have more independence so then they can become great again in their own way. We believe that with the correct resources and support from other county’s will help them gain the financial confidence and strength to stand on their own two feet. It is in-just to shrink down the pride and privilege that any county deserves by rejecting and they will use Cornwall as this Idolised version of UK California but wont allow them to move forward themselves.

Moving foward with this ideal and course for Action we need to be more Sustainable in our county and premote ourselves the only way we know we can which is through our expeince and triumphs - let the world see how truly great we and how we can become even greater. An action we can take is by using our wide range source of current business’s and allowing it to be spread more between us and decrease the amount of Holiday Makers, Stereotype branded restaurants or shops and promoting local small business, showing tradition's and letting others get involved instead of just narrowing the box down to a specific type of Tennant in this County. So! Come join us in the course and Sign our petition today! We have even created merchandise you can buy for the stance and meet up's to rise against this issue.
